Many people and their families know someone who has walked in the shoes of addiction, loss by suicide, or human trafficking. One special event will not only shed light on these issues, but attempt to bring people out of their own personal darkness by offering resources and hope through recovery.
Trish O’ Connor, Executive Director of Ministries for Compass North Church spoke about the 6th annual A Walk in Their Shoes event at the Goodyear Theater March 28.
Trish discussed how the event started and how it evolved over the years.
“It really started when I was going through stuff with my own kids, they were coming out of addiction, and they were in treatment,” she explained.
I was watching some Facebook videos from a person in West Virginia who had an event called ‘A Walk in Their Shoes’, so I asked my pastor if I could use the church to hold an event so people can share their own stories and have resources to get help,” she said.
“The whole family needs to be healed, the moms, the dads, the husbands, and the wives,” she said. “Recovery is not just with the person themselves, it’s the whole family.”
Fast forward to 2025, and people can get information from 50 different resource tables on topics such as addiction recovery, loss by suicide, and human trafficking at this free event, which is open to the public.
Trish says the resource tables will be available for those to listen and learn.
The worship band from Compass North Church will be there and people can also get the chance to hear from 4 different speakers including Trish herself.
Folks can take advantage of the recovery resources from 5:45pm-6:45pm and then the main event with the keynote speakers will take place in the auditorium of the Goodyear Theater from 7pm-9pm.
