One of Akron’s most respected and well-known entities is having a special benefit to highlight 90 years of community theatre.
The “Curtain Call” benefit will take place on June 7 at Weathervane Playhouse assisting with the digital archive project.
This one of a kind archive is crucial in showcasing Weathervane’s rich history for the next generation of theatre lovers.
Fred Gloor and Danielle Gruhler joined us in the WAOH-TV Studios to talk about the project, the evening, and how the project came together.
When you ask about how the idea of the benefit performance came about, Fred said it all started last November in an unexpected way.
“The committee was tasked with raising funds for the archival project, which was started by one of the University of Akron grad students,” he said.
We then put this idea together to show 90 years of incredible moments and spotlight all the amazing volunteers we have.”
You can check out a quick video detailing the project itself.
Danielle said people can expect what can be described as a “fabulous evening” when they come through the doors.
“People can expect some hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, a silent auction, live music by Hand+Noise, and a live performance on the Weathervane stage.”
Some of the silent auction items you can bid on include a high-end technology basket, a candlelight dinner on the Weathervane Stage, and a unique “nooks and crannies” tour, and more.
The live performance are including some great actors and actresses, some of whom haven’t been on stage since 1970!
The event starts at 6pm June 7th, and tickets are $90 per person.
