Robert Fenn Talking Social Security

Many people have questions about their Social Security benefits and how they can navigate an ever-changing system.

Robert Fenn, Public Affairs Specialist for Social Security Administration joined us in the WAOH-TV studios to give some insight into social security and how to prevent fraud from happening as it relates to it.

Robert discussed when people can begin to file for their benefits.

“You can begin to file for your benefits at age 62,” he said. “You can visit the website at socialsecurity.gov and you can find out how to apply and everything.”

One of the big problems surrounding people’s trust includes fraud and people portraying themselves as Social Security representatives.

“We have to start from the basics,” Fenn explained.

“Social Security already has your number, so why would they ask you for your number,” he continued.

No one from Social Security is going to show up to your home, you won’t be seeing Robert Fenn knocking on your door coming up out of the blue.”

There has been an increase of people becoming victims of fraud due to people posing as representatives from Social Security.

Social Security will send you a letter if they need to contact you. They will let you know why they need to contact you and when they need to contact you.

“These scammers can use scare tactics to get you to do what they want,” if you don’t do XYZ, we can send you to jail or suspend your social security number, which isn’t even possible. “
